Police are asking for help from the public to find a man who bashed a south Auckland woman while her 16-month-old son was sleeping next to her.
Memree Warid has been undergoing surgery for her fractured cheekbone and jaw following the attack about 5.30am in Takanini Rd, Takanini on July 24.
"It was pretty scary, especially waking up with someone on top of you and not knowing who they are," she told the Papakura Courier.
She believed the burglar entered through an unlocked ranchslider before tripping over a coffee table.
"He's tripped over the table and landed on me. He would've totally freaked out feeling a body under him and probably his first instinct was to start smashing," she said.
The couple's car was recently broken into and they are considering following the path of a neighbour who moved out after being robbed two weeks ago.
Police said it was possible the offender might have bruised or cut hands as a result of the assault.
Anyone with information was asked to call Papakura police.
