Police seek girl's assault witness

Police are appealing to a motorist who witnessed an alleged assault of three young schoolgirls in Feilding last month to contact them.

The incident happened in the Kowhai Street area on August 15.

Constable Dave Wilson of Palmerston North CIB said a 45-year-old man has since been charged with assault and is before the courts.

He said that one of the schoolgirls told police that during the assault an elderly man stopped his vehicle to ask the alleged offender and the girls if "everything was okay".

As a result of what was said by the alleged offender, he continued on his way.

Police would like to speak with the elderly man, Mr Wilson said.
