Police search Hutt River for missing man Thomas Basire last seen two months ago

Specialist police teams are searching the Hutt River for a man missing for two months.

Thomas Basire was last seen near the Ewen Bridge on Railway Ave, walking on the stopbank towards Petone in Lower Hutt on November 24.

Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Todd said the 28-year-old was wearing a red, long-sleeved sweatshirt, black trousers and black sneakers at the time.

Today’s search will include the riverbank area, Todd said.

“It is out of character for Tom to not be in contact with his family, especially to miss seeing his family on his birthday in December.

“Both police and Tom’s family have serious concerns for his wellbeing and would like to know he is safe.”

Police have previously said Basire was known to frequent Lower Hutt CBD and reportedly stayed around the War Memorial Library,

Todd urged anyone with information on Basire’s whereabouts to contact police by calling 105 referencing file number 241213/6143.
