Police search for missing motorist

A man who failed to arrive in Kaikoura from Christchurch yesterday morning is still missing, police said this morning.

Jonathan McCarthy, 50, was last seen at his Christchurch home shortly after 7am yesterday and had been expected in Kaikoura about 9.30am.

Police southern communications Inspector Rick Jury said a search along the roadside by police using vehicles and a helicopter failed to locate him yesterday.

He had still not been located this morning, a southern communications spokeswoman said.

Mr McCarthy was driving a grey 1990 Subaru Legacy station wagon with the registration number WR5218.

Mr Jury said anyone with information about his whereabouts should contact police.
