More than two weeks after a man was found ferociously stabbed to death in his Wellington home police have released images of a knife they believe is similar to the one used in his murder.
The serrated-edged knife used to kill Matthew Hall, 35, who was found dead in his bed at his Broderick Rd home in Johnsonville on February 15, is yet to be found by police.
No arrests have been made.
"We are releasing images today of a knife we believe is similar to the one used in the ferocious attack on Matthew, in the hope that someone, somewhere, may recognise it and come forward with any information," Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thornton said.
"Finding the weapon is vital to locating the person or people responsible for Matthew's violent death."
Police had earlier released CCTV images of Mr Hall at Woolworths supermarket in Johnsonville - about 1.1km from his address on Broderick Road - the evening before he was found dead.
Mr Hall worked as a consumer consultant for Capital & Coast DHB's alcohol and drug services and general adult mental health services and sang in a death metal band.
Mr Hall's injuries were described by Mr Thornton as among the worst he had ever seen.
