Police are trying to find a good samaritan who helped a taxi driver who may have been assaulted in Dunedin on Saturday night.
The driver was found lying on the footpath with a cut to his head, but has no memory of what happened to him.
The taxi driver, 54, was possibly assaulted after picking up two men, thought to be aged in their 20s, about 8.45pm in the Octagon outside the Night n Day, said detective Matt Preece.
He was found about 9pm lying on the footpath at the intersection of Ashmore St and Taieri Rd in a dazed state.
The taxi company found the driver being attended to by a member of the public who had stopped to help him. He was taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged, and has no recollection of the events that led up to his injuries.
