Hamilton police are searching for a body after a man was seen jumping into the Waikato River this morning.
Acting Senior Sergeant Martyn Hughes said emergency services were called to the area of the Pukete Footbridge, which spans the river between Braithwaite Park and Munros Reserve, about 11.35am.
"Members of the public saw the man fall and land in the water and we're currently working to locate him as we speak.
"The matter is not considered suspicious and we are treating the matter as a recovery operation. Search and rescue volunteers have been brought in to assist police staff search the river banks and the police boat has been launched."
Mr Hughes said police wanted to acknowledge the actions of two 13-year-old boys who attempted to rescue the man after he was seen in the water.
