Police release last known image of Renee Duckmanton

The last known image of Renee Duckmanton, whose body was burned and dumped on a rural Canterbury road, has been released by police.

Security camera footage of Miss Duckmanton walking on Peterborough St in Christchurch's red light district at about 9pm on May 14 was released today.

Police are investigating whether Miss Duckmanton's involvement in the sex industry is connected to her death.

"This area is frequented by many people on Saturday nights and is not far from Margaret Mahy Park," Detective Inspector Darryl Sweeney said.

"Police are continuing to ask for any sightings of Renee in and around this area on the Saturday night.

"Currently, police believe Renee arrived in the area shortly after 8.30pm.

"At approximately 9pm, Renee walked across Manchester Street and into Peterborough Street."

If anyone has any information, Mr Sweeney asked that they either contact Christchurch Central Police station or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

"Police do appreciate the sensitivity of the work on Manchester Street," Mr Sweeney added.

"Accordingly, detectives are able to meet or communicate with those in the area by any arrangement that suits."

Police say they continue to have a large team of investigators and specialist staff working through the week to ensure those responsible are held to account.

Police have stepped up their presence in Christchurch's red light district after the 22-year-old's burnt body was found on the roadside verge of Main Rakaia Rd, 500m from State Highway 1, by a member of the public driving past at 7.40pm on May 15.

Ms Duckmanton's killing is the fourth such slaying of a sex worker connected to Christchurch in recent years.
