Police recruits queue up

Police recruiting is ahead of target and the force says it is well positioned to have 1000 new officers on the streets by 2009.

The number of sworn officers increased by 76 between June 30 and August 30, 21 more than estimated, which police attribute to reduced attrition and successful recruiting.

Only seven staff left last month, and numbers at recruiting seminars have increased.
