A brief police pursuit ended with a four-car smash after a stolen car hit road spikes and swerved at speed in the Auckland suburb of Avondale.
Roesbank Rd has been closed while the police serious crash unit investigates, and diversions are likely to remain until 3pm.
Two men were arrested following the chase, in which a stolen Subaru Forester crashed into three other cars on Rosebank Rd at about 12.30 today.
Police at the scene and other witnesses said the vehicle swerved at speed after hitting police spikes and veered into the civilians' cars.
The men fled the scene on foot and were then tracked by a police dog.
A member of the public who stepped in to help suffered a dog bite to his lower leg.
His injury is not thought to be serious and he is receiving treatment.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area if at all possible until further notice.
