Police are investigating a suspicious fire involving a historic Hastings villa that was due to be relocated to Waiheke Island.
The Frimley villa on the corner of Nottingley and Lyndhurst roads caught fire about 2am today.
The property was in the process of being shifted from Hastings to Auckland's Waiheke Island.
The fire began on the rear porch and quickly spread throughout the villa, before it was spotted by a neighbour who quickly called the Fire Service.
"We are currently treating the fire as suspicious and we would like to hear from anyone who was in the Frimley area around the time of the fire," said Napier CIB Detective Ross Alexander.
