KEY POINTS:
Christchurch's teenagers have won praise from police for showing restraint in a weekend in which tensions over a fatal hit-and-run had threatened to explode.
Young people from across the city resisted the temptation to create havoc on Saturday night after text messages called for rallies, parties and retaliation against the family of a man charged with murdering 16-year-olds Jane Young and Hannah Rossiter a week earlier.
Lipine Sila, 22, is accused of running down the pair and others outside an out-of-control Christchurch party. Other victims remain in serious conditions in Christchurch Hospital.
"I think we have to congratulate the young people of Christchurch," said Inspector John Price.
More than 1500 attended a funeral service for Hannah Rossiter at her school, St Margaret's College, on Friday. A service for Jane Young will be held today.
