KEY POINTS:
Police are cautiously satisfied with a crackdown on boyracers in central Christchurch last night, which coincided with a popular car show in the city over the weekend.
Police southern communications centre spokesman Inspector Alan Weston said traffic control measures brought in for the weekend seemed to have been effective.
"I'm doing a comparison from last weekend to this weekend on incidents that were reported," he told NZPA today.
"Last weekend we had 18 traffic incidents between 9pm and 7am, and this weekend we had 52 reported for the Christchruch area. But disorder incidents were 67 last weekend and 71 this weekend, so there wasn't much difference there."
The 4s and Rotary meet was a car convention held in the city for young people, Mr Weston said, and attracted thousands of enthusiasts over the weekend.
Oxford Tce was closed to all traffic from 10pm overnight on Friday and Saturday, and parking was banned on Moorhouse Avenue for the same hours.
Mr Weston said although police were kept busy, there were no serious incidents.
