KEY POINTS:
Two police officers had a lucky escape when their patrol car rolled while they were responding to an emergency call yesterday afternoon.
It is understood the Counties Manukau officers were on their way to check a report that a stolen car had been seen in the area when they crashed on the Whitford- Maraetai Rd near Beachlands about 3.40pm.
Police say they are still investigating the cause of the crash, but it appears the car may have clipped the gravel on the side of the road before flipping and coming to land about 50m away on its side - with its lights still flashing.
"They have done a pirouette in the air and then hit the ground," said police spokeswoman Ana-Mari Gates-Bowey.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident, which temporarily closed the road and caused traffic delays.
Ms Gates-Bowey said one of the officers was treated for a minor neck injury but the other was unhurt.
