KEY POINTS:
An operation by police to see what bars are selling to minors has seen the worst result ever in Christchurch.
Five out of the six premises selected in an operation yesterday evening sold alcohol to the 17-year-old male and 16-year-old female.
Police, together with a Christchurch City Council liquor licensing inspector and staff from Community & Public Health, conducted a controlled purchase operation involving licensed premises in Christchurch city in the early evening.
Only one of the premises requested ID and then refused service.
Those involved with the operation said they were very concerned at the 83 per cent sale rate to the minors.
Medical Officer of Health Alistair Humphrey said the results were particularly disappointing given the recent and frequent publicity regarding youth access to alcohol.
