KEY POINTS:
Whangarei police fear for the safety of two infants taken by their father after a domestic incident at their home on Sunday night.
James Toby, unemployed, 54, left his house in the suburb of Onerahi after a fight with a woman and a 16-year-old female about 10.30pm in which one person was slightly injured.
The officer in charge of the case, Detective Kelly Penney of Whangarei CIB, would not say who the two females were.
Mr Toby lives at the house with his wife and his two children, a 3-year-old girl and an 18-month-old boy.
He left with the children in a white 1991 model Nissan Pulsar hatchback, registration YW3322.
Mr Penney said Mr Toby should not be approached as police did not know what mood he would be in.
"He left in quite a distressed state and he hasn't been heard from or seen since, so we're concerned for the children's wellbeing."
He would not reveal if Mr Toby, who is Maori and of medium to solid build, was known to the police.
