Two police officers have been assaulted in Christchurch tonight, suffering head injuries as they tried to make an arrest.
The officers were arresting a suspect in a domestic violence incident at about 9pm when they were injured.
The arrest was being made at the Palms Shopping Centre car park in Shirley, after the suspect fled the North New Brighton address where the domestic incident had occurred.
A 29-year-old male has been charged with a number of charges relating to the domestic incident, as well as a charge relating to injuring the officers.
The two officers are being treated by medical staff, but will not require ongoing medical assistance.
