A police officer accused of careless driving after crashing his patrol car into a tree has had the charge dropped.
Constable Gary Neil Morgan was to appear in North Shore District Court today to face the charge after allegedly crashing the car on Puriri St, Takapuna, on June 11.
The charge was withdrawn by police, a court spokeswoman said.
North Shore area commander Inspector Les Paterson said at the time of Mr Morgan's first appearance in court the case would be reviewed for any disciplinary proceedings.
He said there was "no way" the matter would be job-threatening for Mr Morgan, who was still on active duty at the time.
