KEY POINTS:
A police officer stationed at the site of a road crash south of Dunedin was hurt today when a car ploughed into a patrol car.
Inspector Mike Coulter, of the police southern communications centre in Christchurch, said the officer was protecting the scene after a crash on State Highway One between Lookout Point and Green Island about 3.40pm.
"It looks as though a car has come over the crest of a hill and hit a police car from behind," Mr Coulter said. "The police officer has been taken to hospital with injuries."
Mr Coulter said the incident involving the officer happened about 4.10pm. The extent of the officer's injuries was unknown.
