Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the discovery of a woman's body in her Hamilton home, but refuse to say how she met her death.
The identity of the woman, in her 40s, found in suburban Nawton on Monday, was expected to be released today. She was last seen alive on Friday.
Police refused to say which forensic tests were being carried out.
Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Page said there were "a number of things we have yet to sort out and a number of issues we have yet to resolve".
He said the body had been formally identified and an autopsy was done on the woman's body yesterday.
He said there was a "very good" reason for not talking about the cause of death.
"It is early days and there are a number of issues for us to resolved before we get a clear picture as to what has occurred," he said.
The Waikato Times reported that a neighbour, who did not want to be named, said the woman had lived at the Baverstock Road address for several years.
"Hopefully it's not some psycho. I just hope it's not a murder."
The newspaper said police had been door-knocking neighbouring properties asking residents if they had seen or heard anything suspicious.
