KEY POINTS:
Police do not appear to be at fault after one of their vehicles collided with a car occupied by a group of Asian students, leaving two hospitalised. Witness accounts indicated the police car had its flashing lights and siren on while on the way to an armed incident shortly before 6pm on Monday when it entered a central Christchurch intersection and the other vehicle approached from the opposite direction and turned into its path.
The police car was considered to have slowed as it approached the intersection and its speed has been estimated by witnesses at between 40 and 50km/h prior to the crash.
Two of the occupants of the other car, a Toyota Corolla, were taken to Christchurch Hospital. Their injuries were not serious and they were later discharged.
The driver was a Korean student, who had been in New Zealand for the past couple of months, on a student visa. He held an overseas driver licence. His passengers were also believed to be Korean.
Police investigations are continuing.
