Fifty-two people were caught drink-driving during a police blitz on Auckland's North Shore at the weekend.
Police breath tested 9268 drivers at 16 alcohol check points on Friday and Saturday night.
Police said the number of people caught over the limit had gone down compared to a similar operation earlier in the year, but it was still too high.
The number of young people drink driving had significantly dropped. Only three of the 52 drivers caught over the limit under the age of 20.
