KEY POINTS:
Police are investigating the cause of a crash in which a woman died when she was trapped in her car in a Horowhenua creek yesterday.
Renee Manihera, 29, of Levin, was pinned below the water line and died at the scene.
Police had to use a crane to life the car from the stream before Ms Manihera's body was freed from the vehicle.
Sergeant Dave Howorth, of Levin, said today the accident happened about 2.30am on Saturday when Ms Manihera's Honda car left Margaret Street in Shannon, and ended up in the Otauru Stream.
"At this stage reasons for the accident are unclear," he said.
An investigation by the police serious crash unit is underway.
