KEY POINTS:
Police have named the 49-year-old woman who died after a diving incident off Bauza Island at the entrance to Doubtful Sound, Fiordland.
She was Susan Margaret Gunther, who lived in Melbourne.
Senior Sergeant Olaf Jensen, of Invercargill police, said Mrs Gunther, originally from Invercargill, was on a private diving trip in the Fiordland area at the time of her death.
She got into difficulties shortly after entering the water about 4pm yesterday.
She was with two diving companions at the time who assisted her back to their vessel and was given CPR but she died before emergency services arrived.
Her death was reported to the coroner and police inquiries were continuing, Mr Jensen said.
