A two-car collision that caused the death of a Hamilton woman is likely to have occurred when one vehicle crossed the centreline, police say.
The crash, which happened on State Highway 1 at Piarere in South Waikato at around 6.15pm yesterday, killed one person and injured two others.
Police tonight identified the woman who died as Alysia Jade Kelly, a 27-year-old woman from Hamilton who had been living in Sydney.
She was the passenger of the northbound vehicle, and died at the scene.
The driver of the same car is in a serious condition at Waikato Hospital, as is the passenger of the southbound vehicle. The driver of the southbound car was discharged earlier today, police said.
Early indications suggest one vehcile had crossed the centre line and collided with the other, police said.
The road had been closed for six hours while emergency services tended to the victims and conducted a detailed scene examination, police said.
The serious crash unit is still investigating the crash, however Senior Sergeant Fane Troy said early indications suggested fatigue may have been a factor.
