KEY POINTS:
Police have released the name of a tramper killed after she was trapped under a boulder in the Raukumara Ranges near Ruatoria, 130km northeast of Gisborne, on Saturday.
She was 55-year-old Gisborne woman, Phillipa Wilson.
Ms Wilson and three other adults entered the Aratipuna Trail on Saturday morning to begin a three-day tramp to Waihau Bay, Gisborne acting Sergeant Rebecca Pepere said.
On Saturday night, the woman tried to move around a boulder on the track when it rolled over - trapping her underneath.
Two of her companions were unable to move the boulder.
She was dead by the time the third companion arrived, Ms Pepere said.
The party activated their emergency beacon, but poor weather prevented the emergency helicopter from getting to them until Sunday morning.
