KEY POINTS:
Two people who died in road crashes at Kaikoura and Whangarei during the weekend have been identified.
Si Tae Keum, 32, a Korean living in Blenheim, died when the car he was driving crashed into a railway tunnel abutment at Halfmoon Bay on State Highway 1 north of Kaikoura on Sunday night.
Police said he appeared to have lost control of his vehicle and no-one else was involved in the crash.
Sixteen-year-old Northland girl Aliesha Jane Dempster, from Otonga north of Whangarei, died when the car she was a passenger in left the road and crashed on State Highway 14 at Maungatapere, southwest of Whangarei. Three others in the car suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Five people died on New Zealand roads during the weekend.
