KEY POINTS:
Police today released the name of a man who died after a head-on crash south of Auckland in the weekend's sole road fatality.
He was Steve Tony Ivan Thomas Ray William Haimora Sturgeon Maaka, 24, who was the front-seat passenger in one of two vehicles in the collision on State Highway 22 at Drury on Saturday night.
Three other people taken to Middlemore Hospital in South Auckland were today described as having moderate injuries.
One car was carrying Mr Maaka and two others, while the other had just the driver.
Police said they were investigating whether alcohol played a part in the crash, which occurred on a bend.
However, residents also said there had been many accidents on the bend and appeals had been made over the years to have the road restructured.
There was another death involving a vehicle at the weekend, but the death of a Kaikohe two-year-old boy was not listed as part of the official road toll because it happened in a driveway.
