KEY POINTS:
Police have named the two Palmerston North men killed when two trucks collided on State Highway 57 north of Shannon yesterday afternoon.
They were Benedict (Ben) William Skinner, 30, and Benjamin Lindsay Winiata, 67, the drivers of the trucks.
Police and a Serious Crash Unit were investigating today and said it appeared the trucks had been travelling towards each other when one crossed the centre line, hitting the other head-on.
They said at this point neither driver was suspected of speeding or having drunk alcohol.
A passenger in one of the trucks was taken to Palmerston North Hospital with moderate injuries and was today described as "comfortable".
A car which was following one of the trucks was also caught up in the crash with the driver received minor injuries.
The crash closed SH57 for nearly 10 hours.
