KEY POINTS:
Police have named two Korean tourists who died in a four-car crash in Northland yesterday.
Areum Han, 27, and Hyeongwoo Kim, 22, died after the car Ms Han was driving northwards crossed the centre line and collided with a southbound car on State Highway 1 near Towai, 37km north of Whangarei.
Ms Han and Mr Kim, the front seat passenger, were on holiday and heading towards the Bay of Islands.
They died at the scene.
Northland Police spokeswoman Sarah Kennett said she believed the families of Ms Han and Mr Kim were on their way to New Zealand.
Cars following both vehicles involved in the initial collision were also caught up in the crash.
Six other people were in the three other vehicles. Two people were taken to Whangarei Hospital with moderate injuries.
