Police have named a tourist killed in a two vehicle crash in Taranaki on Tuesday afternoon.
Joelle Marguerite Janine Gaiffe, 57, was on holiday from Papeete in Tahiti with her husband Francis Gaiffe when their rental car collided head-on with a 4WD on Pukearuhe Road, Urenui.
Mrs Gaiffe died and her husband suffered serious leg and facial injuries.
He was airlifted by the Taranaki Rescue Trust Helicopter to New Plymouth Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
The driver of the 4WD, a 20-year-old woman from Stratford, and her front seat passenger, a 24-year-old man from Canada, suffered moderate injuries.
The Serious Crash Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.
