Police have released the name of a 17-year-old youth who died in a one-car crash on Mt Bruce on Sunday.
Kane Thomas O'Donovan of Pahiatua died after the car he was driving veered into a bank about 9am.
The unlicensed driver was travelling south on State Highway 2 when he crashed, about 200 metres from the summit.
Alcohol use may have been a factor.
The teenager is thought to have been living in Featherston, where his father lives.
Tributes have flooded in to his Facebook page.
Police are seeking information about a vehicle that was seen before the fatal crash.
They understand that the driver who died had been given petrol by a passer-by and officers would like to speak to that person or persons.
