Whakatane police today named the teenager killed when her car crashed near Whakatane yesterday.
Constable Michael Chelley said Taylor Scott, 18, of Te Teko, southwest of Whakatane, died when her car crashed off State Highway 30 and collided with several trees.
Mr Chelley said the crash happened a kilometre west of Te Teko about 7.30am.
He said police were still investigating what may have caused it.
Ms Scott was one of three people killed on New Zealand's roads during the weekend.
