KEY POINTS:
Police have released the names of two men killed in a head-on smash east of Taupo on Saturday night.
They were David Pattie, 30, and Sonny Wesche, 18, both of Taupo.
Police and ambulance staff said the crash occurred when the men's utility vehicle crossed the centre line on a blind right-hand bend, colliding with a Nissan four-wheel-drive.
The occupants of the Nissan, two brothers aged 30 and 35, remain in Waikato Hospital in a critical condition.
