KEY POINTS:
Police have named a man killed in a crash southwest of Timaru yesterday as 27-year-old Andrew Keith Muir.
Police said Mr Muir was travelling on a rural road near Otaio at about 5.15pm when he swerved for oncoming traffic and his vehicle left the road, crashing into a creek.
"As two vehicles approached, both vehicles swerved around each other, this vehicle travelling north has gone onto the roadside and lost control," Waimate Sergeant Mike Van der Hayden said.
One of the other drivers saw what happened and returned to help.
Mr Muir lived in Morven, about 40km north of Oamaru.
