KEY POINTS:
Wellington police have named a man they describe as armed and dangerous, sought in connection with an aggravated robbery at a pharmacy in the central city on the weekend.
Lance Roy Ludwig, 34, is believed to be carrying a pistol and is thought to be in hiding in the North Island.
He is about 1.8m tall, of medium build, with short ginger hair and a goatee beard. He has numerous tattoos on his arms, hands and neck.
Detective Sergeant Damian Murphy said Ludwig had a history of violence and should not be approached.
He had associates throughout the North Island, particularly in Wellington, Otaki, Hamilton and the Hawke's Bay.
"I advise people who know Lance Roy Ludwig against harbouring him and I urge Mr Ludwig to hand himself at a police station immediately."
Ludwig is wanted in connection with the armed robbery of the Alexander Pharmacy on Willis St on Saturday.
A man armed with a black handgun and cloth covering his face confronted two female staff members and demanded cash and drugs.
The terrified women were shut in the pharmacy office while the man made his getaway with money and drugs.
