KEY POINTS:
Police have taken the step of releasing the name of a man in connection with the home invasion and rape of a mother and daughter in their south Auckland home.
At 10.30am today, police announced they are looking for Teanewa Joseph Ipo, known to his friends as Newa.
They have issued an arrest warrant for Ipo on a charge of sexual violation by rape.
He is described as a 175cm, Maori man of medium build, with brown eyes, who has recently shaved his hair and often wears baseball caps.
Police said today the women are still recovering after the attack.
The home invasion occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, February 5 as the mother, 67, and daughter, 46, slept at their home in Panama Road, Otahuhu.
Police said the intruder awoke and assaulted the younger woman.
The noise awoke her mother who went to investigate and was attacked by the intruder, tied up and thrown into a wardrobe.
The younger woman was then sexually assaulted before also being tied up and bundled into the wardrobe with her mother.
The pair managed to untie each other's bonds before raising the alarm.
