Police today named a man they are hunting following an early morning attack in Hamilton on Friday that left a man with multiple stab wounds and a torn, bitten ear.
Karl Matthew Bettridge, 27, of suburban Melville, was wanted in connection to the assault on a 32-year-old man, Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Thornton said.
The victim suffered wounds to the neck, arms, head and torso, including an ear bitten in half, when he disturbed two men allegedly trying to steal his bicycle.
His ear was bitten in half, but remained attached.
Mr Thornton said a number of search warrants were carried out over the weekend but Bettridge was actively avoiding police.
"Thanks to support from the public we've also come some way towards identifying the alleged second offender," he said.
Anyone with information about Bettridge's whereabouts or the identity of the second offender should contact police, he said.
