Police are hunting for a man named as David Andrew Pool after a woman was assaulted and a large glass window smashed at a shop in Takapuna, Auckland, on Tuesday morning.
Members of the public intervened after the attack on the woman, who suffered cuts and bruises to her face.
Police say her injuries could have been worse if it was not for the help of the people who intervened.
Mr Pool is 38 years of age. He is a male Caucasian, 172cm tall (5' 7½"), of medium build and short blonde hair.
Police warn he is dangerous and should not be approached. Any information can be passed to the Takapuna Police on (09)488-6200.
