Police name man killed when car hit cow

Police today named a man killed when his car hit a cow in Waikato on Monday night.

He was 40-year-old Jason Meagher of Chartwell, Hamilton.

The crash happened on State Highway 29 at Karapiro, 10km southeast of Cambridge, about 10.35pm.

It prompted a call by police for farmers to check their fences after Mr Meagher died and his passenger was seriously injured.

Waikato district road policing manager Inspector Leo Tooman said the tragedy needed to serve as a timely reminder to landowners to check the integrity of their fences bordering roads.
