KEY POINTS:
Police today named the man killed after being thrown from his car in a head-on collision with a truck south of Te Awamutu yesterday afternoon.
He was Frederick Van Tol, 50, of Te Awamutu.
Waikato police communications manager Andrew McAlley said the cause of the crash was still being investigated but it appeared the car was on the wrong side of the road.
Meanwhile, a 40-year-old man killed when his car hit a power pole in New Plymouth on Sunday night has been named by police as Phillip Raymond Batten of New Plymouth.
