Police have named a man who died when his car hit a pole on Auckland's North Shore early this morning.
Shungu Zhakata, 26, was the only person in his car when it crashed on the intersection of Kitchener and Shakespeare Roads in Milford at about 2.50am.
Police said his car hit the pole after negotiating a long steep hill and sharp bend leading up to the bottom of East Coast Road.
Family had been informed about the death.
The Waitemata Serious Crash Unit was investigating.
