Police have named the man who died after his car crashed into a tree near Darfield, in Canterbury.
He was Terrence Walter Beardsmore, 51, of Oxford.
Senior Constable Dave Watkins said Mr Beardsmore was driving on Kimberley Rd last night.
"He failed to negotiate the intersection at Old West Coast Rd and hit a large tree," Mr Watkins said.
