Police have named a man found dead after his car crashed through a fence and into a number of properties at Kaiapoi, north of Christchurch, yesterday.
He was Albert Capill, 69, of Kaiapoi.
Mr Capill's car was the sole vehicle in the accident, which happened about 4.20pm.
Constable
Brent Honan, of southern police communications, said police were examining the car for any defects which may have caused it to crash.
It was possible the driver crashed as a result of a medical condition, police said yesterday.
His death has been referred to the coroner.
