KEY POINTS:
Police have released the name of a man found slain in a Palmerston North flat early on Saturday.
He was Stanley Waipouri, 39, from Palmerston North.
Detective Sergeant Brett Calkin said a post mortem examination was carried out yesterday.
Mr Waipouri suffered multiple serious injuries and the exact cause of death was yet to be determined, Mr Calkin said.
Further forensic testing was required.
The investigation was making good progress, he said.
Police earlier said the victim had been violently attacked and was found lying on the floor of the Rangitikei St flat.
Police were alerted by neighbours.
Two men, who lived at the flat, have appeared in court charged with assault and been remanded until January 29.
