KEY POINTS:
Police have released the name of a man found dead by his wrecked car near Lower Moutere, 18km south of Motueka, yesterday.
Nigel Bernard Ritchie, 58, of Motueka, apparently survived the crash but collapsed and died after walking about 20m from his wrecked car, police said.
Roading contractors found his body near his upturned car in a paddock on Central Road about 7.45am yesterday.
Acting Senor Sergeant Ian Langridge, of Motueka police, said an initial scene examination indicated the crash happened on Wednesday night or early yesterday morning.
Mr Ritchie was the sole occupant of his vehicle.
Police are preparing a report for a coroner's inquest.
