Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman jogger was fatally injured when hit by a bus in the Wellington suburb of Brooklyn this morning.
Police tonight named the victim as Ling Phang, 42, of Wellington.
She had been jogging along Brooklyn Road near Washington Avenue when she was struck by the bus about 8.30am.
She was taken to Wellington Hospital in a critical condition but died a short time later, police said.
Police had already spoken to passengers at the scene, Wellington traffic safety group Sergeant Simon Paterson said.
"There may be bus passengers who left before speaking with police and also passersby who saw what happened.
"Those people may have important information and we'd like to hear from them."
Police had arranged for Victim Support for people who were at the scene, he said.
It was too early to say how the accident happened, Mr Paterson said.
GO Wellington operations general manager Zane Fulljames said the bus company was extremely concerned about the incident and their thoughts were with Ms Phang's family.
A full investigation was under way and being given priority, he said.
