Police have named the diver whose body was found in Jackson Bay on the West Coast.
Constable Sean Judd of West Coast search and rescue said the man was Ralf Holger Schumacher, born in Germany.
His body was found last Sunday.
Mr Schumacher had been living in New Zealand for some years.
The search for Mr Schumacher began after a friend of the 38-year-old Dunedin man reported him missing at about 12.30pm on Friday.
A dive squad from Wellington arrived on Sunday to search the sea floor in the area where the man was last seen.
His death has been referred to the coroner.
