KEY POINTS:
Police have named the two elderly brothers who were killed in a head-on collision with a courier truck near Greymouth last night.
The driver, Carson (Peter) Shea, 69, died at the scene. His brother Gregory Shea, 62, was cut from the wreckage by the Greymouth volunteer fire brigade but died shortly after arriving at Grey Base Hospital.
Sergeant David Cross, of Greymouth police, said the accident happened about 5.50pm at Omoto, on State Highway 7, less than a kilometre from town.
He said the accident was still being investigated but early indications suggested the car had crossed the centre line into the path of the truck, which was travelling away from Greymouth at the time.
The truck driver received only minor injuries.
