Police have named the nine-year-old boy killed in a crash near Kaikoura early yesterday.
Matariki Mackey-Harrison from Christchurch, was one of two people to die on the roads at the weekend.
He was killed when the truck he was in crashed into a bridge 10km north of Kaikoura on State Highway 1 about 6.20am.
The 57-year-old Christchurch driver, a family member, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to hospital in Kaikoura for treatment.
Serious Crash and Land Transport officers were investigating.
An elderly woman died and a man was taken to hospital after two cars collided head-on in the Bay of Plenty yesterday.
The accident happened on State Highway 2 near Apata, northwest of Tauranga, about 6.20am.
Both cars had only one occupant.
